Hi, I’m Katie Powell, the founder & creator behind poWELLness creations.

I was born & raised on Cape Cod in Massachusetts (Wampanoag territory). Coming from many generations of gardeners, & farmers-combined with a strong bond myself to nature, working with plants makes me feel aligned & grounded to my roots.

Living with more than one autoimmune disorder and the myriad of symptoms that follow, herbalism and holistic health has become an integral part of my healing process.

I enjoy learning from plants. From growing, harvesting, formulating, exploring their actions & medicinal properties.. herbalism offers so much opportunity for expansion of knowledge. You can spend years or even decades studying and still learn from them. While I’ve taken some courses online from certified herbalists I’ve found my most valuable knowledge comes from actually growing the herbs, reading from my collection of books, & learning at my own pace.

Blessed to live nearly a decade in Guatemala, a couple years in Florida, along with taking yearly trips to Jamaica to visit family- I’ve been fortunate to learn about plants from families native to those locations. I make it a priority to give back, be a respectful student, & have incorporated those lessons into my daily life be it for medicinal or spiritual purpose.

I have spent nearly all my life in gardens. I landscape both professionally and for my own personal enjoyment. Many of the herbs used in our products come straight from my garden. My husband, & 3 sons help to plant, water, and harvest the ingredients. I can’t really begin to put a date on when I “started” (which is a question I often get) since my interest has always been working with plants, & I’ve been taught tips on growing from my Grandfather since I was very small.

The crafting and making herbal infusions began more fluidly when my first born son was having flare ups with eczema. Tired of the very limited information & clean products available I intuitively starting formulating balms & oils to help keep his skin hydrated, & from getting scratched by his little fingers.

Cape Cod offers many opportunities to wild harvest in the woods, & along the shores of our many beaches. I also have a great network of gardening friends, & local farmers with whom I trade or purchase directly from. From late winter to early spring I begin my growing process indoors, move it to grow tents, or sow seeds directly in my gardens. I’ve managed to grow most of the ingredients for my infused oils, & hydrosols. Whatever isn’t sourced locally is purchased through verified organic farms.

I also enjoy working with the moon. From its phase periods with growing, harvesting, infusing, & prayer. A lot of my products are spiritually based intended to bring calm, comfort, & encourage self care.

Thank you for visiting, & for all the support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions by utilizing the contact me page.
